2018 World Cup: Nigeria Record First Away Victory Over Zambia; Win 2-1

Alex Iwobi’s debut goal for the senior national team gave the deserved lead in the 32nd before Manchester City striker Kelechi Ihaenacho scored the second goal just before the half time interval.

The goals from both youngsters gave the Eagles a deserved 2-0 lead at the interval.

At the start of the second period the home began to asset their dominance on the match and the Eagles were grateful to the work of goalkeeper Carl Ikeme for keeping their two goal lead intact.

The Wolvehampton Wanderers goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the Zambians at bay.

However, the pressure eventually told as the Zambians got a goal back through Kenneth Omeruo mistake in the 71st minute.

The Zambians continued to pepper the Eagles goal but the Nigerians were steadfast in their approach and held on for a very important win.

Nigeria and Zambia are in a tough World Cup qualifying group alongside Africa’s top team the Dessert Foxes of Algeria and former African Champions, Cameroon.

Nigeria’s next game is home to Algeria in November.

Only the top team will qualify from the group as one of Africa’s Five representative to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

This will be the first time Nigeria will be defeating the Zambians on their home turf.
