Australian Open: Federer Likely To Meet Djokovic, Murray In Third Round Tie
Former World Number One Roger Federer faces the possibility of a tough third tie against either Worlds No 2 Novak Djokovic or World No 1 Andy Murray in the 2017 Australian Open.
The Swiss has been seeded 17th after a five-month hiatus owing to a wrist injury and could face either of the top seeds as a result.
Federer has not played competitive tennis since last year’s Wimbledon while Murray surged to the top of the ranking as Djokovic’s form dropped off towards the end of the year.
Rafael Nadal also faces a possible tough early tie after he was seeded Ninth meaning he could face any of the top four seeds in the last 16.
The 2017 Australian Open kicks off on Monday January 16 2017 and is scheduled to end on Sunday January 29 2017.
Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic is No. 3 in the men’s seedings, and U.S. Open champion Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori, Gael Monfils, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem, 14-time major victor Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych round out the top 10.
Following Kerber and Williams in the list of top 10 women’s seeds are Agnieszka Radwanska, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Dominika Cibulkoa, Garbine Muguruza, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Johanna Konta and Carla Suarez Navarro.
