Former Euroleague winners Emporio Armani Milan qualified for the competition’s second group stage with a match to spare thanks to a 66-64 home win over Panathinaikos on Thursday.
Spanish clubs suffered overtime home defeats as Fenerbahce Istanbul beat Barcelona 91-89 to end the hosts’ eight-game winning streak and CSKA Moscow edged Unicaja Malaga 76-75.
Milan’s American forward Daniel Hackett, instrumental in last week’s must-win game with Bayern Munich, shone again by netting a game-high 21 points as the Italians made a strong start and won the opening quarter 18-11.
Fenerbahce’s Serbia guard Bogdan Bogdanovic was outstanding in the shock win at Barca, scoring 23 points, with Czech forward Jan Vesely adding 16 and 10 rebounds for the Turkish side.
French playmaker Nando de Colo nailed 22 points for CSKA, who trailed by 16 at halftime but came storming back after the interval as former NBA guard Sonny Weems and forward Andrey Vorontsevich chipped in with 12 points each.

Holders Maccabi Tel Aviv, who had already secured a berth in the Top 16 featuring two sections of eight teams, cruised to an 82-71 win at Croatians Cedevita Zagreb.
