Nigeria’s queen of the tracks, Blessing Okagbare, is to be awarded an Olympic silver medal nine years after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

It will be noted that Russian, Tatyana Lebedeva, was adjudged to have violated anti-doping rules at the Olympic games in 2008 and has been stripped off her medal.

Lebedeva who won a silver medal in long jump was stripped of her medal by the International Olympic Committee.

Okagbare will now be the silver medalist while Jamaica’s Chelsea Hammond will move from fourth position to receive the bronze medal.

The gold medal winner is unchanged as Maureen Maggi of Brazil remains champion.

With this development, the Nigerian Olympic contingent to the Beijing games in 2008 can now boast of a slight upgrade on the medals table.

The team now has three silver medals(U-23 football team, 4x100m women’s relay team and women’s long jump) as well as Chika Chukwumerijie’s bronze medal in taekwondo.

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt also had his gold medal revoked after his team mate, Nesta Caster was found to have failed anti-doping tests.
