Super Eagles assistant captain Ogenyi Onazi has said the Super Eagles is ready for any team as the draw for the 2018 World Cup is about to be made.
Nigeria is in pot four of the draw as the world football governing body FIFA elected to use its October rankings for the categorization of the qualified countries.
According to him, having won the World Cup ticket, the Eagles would be ready to face any team in the tournament. He said he was hoping for a relatively easy grouping for the team but no country would be a pushover in the Mundial.
“World Cup is the biggest football competition and you can’t be thinking about avoiding any team, we played against Argentina in 2014 Brazil World Cup so also Bosnia, these teams have good players. It is good to have an easy group, it is down to luck but if it doesn’t happen that way, you just have to prove that you belong to the best in the world because no team or match is easy at the World Cup.
We have to believe in ourselves that we can do it, you can see that we young and experienced players, we keep developing and we can get far in that competition,” he said.
He said they toiled to get the ticket despite landing in Russia with a match to spare in the qualifiers. “When we started some people said in a group that was called Group of Death, we might be the first to be knocked out but we are happy we were the first to make it to the World Cup.
It is the grace of God, everyone worked for it and we thank our fans for their support. We did not qualify for the last two African Nations Cup and now God has helped us to compensate our fans with the World Cup qualification,” he added.
