Italy World Cup-winning captain, Fabio Cannavaro, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for breaching orders to keep out of his property after it was seized by authorities.

The 41-year-old, who played for Parma, Internazionale, Juventus and Real Madrid, and captained Italy to their 2006 World Cup triumph, has been under investigation for tax evasion, according to the Guardian.

“In October, authorities in Naples seized almost €1 million of goods linked to Cannavaro and his wife.

“However, his failure to adhere to their ruling last month has led to Cannavaro – now the coach of the Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande – being handed a 10-month sentence.”

According to The Guardian, Cannavaro, who captained Italy to World Cup triumph in 2006, refused to keep out of his property, which has resulted in a custodial sentence, and his wife Daniela Arenoso and brother Paolo have also been sentenced.

Reports have claimed that all three have appealed the court’s ruling, resulting in the sentences being suspended.
