I prefer Premier League to La Liga – Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has dropped a huge hint that he is keen on a move to the Premier League.

The Real Madrid central defender conceded a penalty in the 2-0 last 16 first-leg defeat to cross-city rivals Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey, dragging down Raul Garcia in the box, and says he is becoming increasingly disillusioned with the standard of refereeing in Spain.

“I’m not going to talk about controversial issues and certainly not that incident,” he told AS.

“The only thing I will say is that with every passing day I prefer the English Premier League.

“What am I talking about? Obviously not the ball-boys…the style of play, the refereeing. People enjoy watching that competition. When you lose it’s easy to focus on the refereeing decisions.”

The Spain international says he and his Madrid teammates are duty-bound to overcome the adverse scoreline in next weeks’ return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“Real Madrid is an institution and that obliges us to do our best to try and get through this tie.

“Our focus now is on Saturday’s game against Espanyol and then it will be on the return leg.”
