Ikeme Announces Recovery From Leukaemia

Super Eagles goal keeper, Carl Ikeme has announced that his cancer is in “complete remission.”

Ikeme who revealed the news via his twitter handle stated that “After a year of intense chemotherapy I would like to share that I am in complete REMISSION.”

He added, “I still have hurdles to pass to be cured, but hopefully I can move on with some normality! I would like to thank everyone for their support over the past year. Thank you #Grateful”


It will be recalled that the 32-year old Wolverhampton Wanderers shot stopper had been battling leukaemia.

Prior to the kick off of the World Cup in Russia, he was named as an unregistered ’24th member’ of the Nigeria World Cup squad after he was unable to be chosen because of his cancer treatment.

It will also be recalled that ahead of the Group D game on Friday, Iceland players wished him a quick recovery whilst holding a shirt with his name printed on the jersey.
