Kano Pillars Return To Training After Robbery Attack

The reigning Nigeria League champions, Kano Pillars returned to training yesterday after their recent ordeal in the hands of dare-devil armed robbers.

According Ubong Ekpai, one of the players wounded in robbery attack, which occurred in Abaji, a suburb of Abuja, said he and his teammates would be regrouped yesterday as they attempt to pick themselves up after the sad event enroute to Owerri for their Match Day 1 fixture against Heartland FC.

“We will had our first training since what happened, hopefully my teammates will be able to put what happened behind them so we can face the task ahead,” Ekpai who sustained head injuries in the attack but has since been discharged from the hospital, he stated.

Recounting what happened; Ekpai stated that he has never been involved in a robbery incident, adding that he “prays that this episode would be his last as it was by no means a pleasant experience.

“I have never experienced such, the robbers were just shooting sporadically at our bus, it was one of the glasses in the bus that injured me in the head,” he said.

Ekpai also countered insinuations that they incurred the wrath of the robbers after playing stubborn.

“No we didn’t argue with them, they collected our phones and monies and they were still shooting. We thank God nobody was killed, we are just praying that the rest in the hospital will soon be discharged,” the former Akwa United star further stated.

Thursday’s roberry incident saw the League Management Company postponing indefinitely Kano Pillars first match in the domestic season against Heartland.

Although it was gathered that the Nigerian Football Federation has also written to the Confederation of African Football requesting the postponement of Pillars’ March 13 Champions League first-round first-leg match against Moghreb Athletic Tetouane.
