A Philip Asuquo 90th minute penalty was all that was needed to settle the rescheduled MatchDay 17 game between Yobe Desert Star and MFM FC on Wednesday evening which ended 1-0 in favour of the home side.
In a game played at the Damaturu Township Stadium witnessed some attacking moves from both sides with Asuquo firing over from the edge of MFM’s box as early as the 9th minute.
In the 14th minute, MFM had its chance of scoring its first away goal in the last 6 matches when Adebayo Waheed went past his maker after receiving a pass from Akanni Elijah but his last effort on the ball narrowly missed the target.
There were some interesting and sleek moves from MFM’s Waheed who linked up with Baye but missed his opportunity to open the scoring.
Despite the missed opportunity, the Olukoya Boys began to grow in the game surprisingly controlling the proceedings for the most part of the first half, though the home side had clearer chances to score but for Isaac Jerry’s heroics.
Following an infringement on Yobe’s Chinedu Ohanachom, the referee, Bashir Salihu was left with no choice but to point to the spot which was converted coolly by Philip Asuquo.
Yobe Stars are 14th on the log on 25 points while MFM are 9th on 28 points after 20 games.
Meanwhile, in another rescheduled MatchDay 16 game between Akwa United and Plateau United ended 1-1 with Cyril Olisema and Hamzat Owolabi both on the scoring chart.
