Late Lukaku leveller saves Everton
Romelu Lukaku’s injury-time equaliser earned Everton an FA Cup replay at West Ham after a 1-1 draw, ending a miserable run of four consecutive defeats for the Toffees.
After a combative but largely uninspiring first half, James Collins opened the scoring soon after half-time with a powerful header from Morgan Amalfitano’s corner.
The Hammers came very close to doubling their lead just a minute later but stand-in goalkeeper Joel Robles tipped Enner Valencia’s header over from point-blank range.
The Toffees pressed for an equaliser from then on but became increasingly frustrated as long balls forward were easily cleared away by the excellent West Ham defence.
A minute into injury time Lukaku finally found the goal that Everton had craved, controlling Bryan Oviedo’s low cross and then slamming the ball in from six yards out.
