Luka Modric May Be Fit for Late January Real Madrid Return

Luka Modric may be headed back into Carlo Ancelotti’s starting roster sooner than expected, according to Diario AS.

Modric injured his groin while on international duty in mid-November; an injury expected to sideline the midfielder for four months.

According to reports, the Croatian international is responding to treatment and recuperating faster than expected, due to his commitment to recovering properly but in efficient time. In such efficient time that AS suggests he will without a doubt be fit for Real Madrid’s February 18th Champions League fixture with Schalke.

Doctors may have described Luka as the “perfect patient” but Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that he will not be taking any risks with his go-to midfielder. The Italian has made it a point to say that medics and staff will be certain Modric if fully fit before slowly integrating him back into the team.

Due to Modric’s absence and then a temporary loss of both James Rodriguez and Sami Khedira, Ancelotti has had to get creative in Real Madrid’s midfield. The Italian has heavily integrated Isco and Illarramendi in the wake of these injury scares and the pair have worked excellently alongside German Toni Kroos.

Modric was all smiles and clearly in well spirits as he joined the team in Marrakesh where Los Blancos hailed the FIFA Club World Cup title. Despite success without him, a Modric return would undoubtedly not only elevate spirits but elevate this already deadly starting XI into 2015.
