Rivers United on Sunday evening condemned Nasarawa United to 13th away game loss in the Nigeria Premier League MatchDay 17 while ensuring their home stadium in Port Harcourt remains a fortress.

The game began on the best note for the home side meant business following Elum Sochima goal in the first minute of the game which is the fastest goal of the season – a brilliant strike that flew in off the post.

A stunned Nasarawa took a while to get into the game and when they did, they were offensive searching for an equaliser but the Stanley Eguma side stood their ground.

Without relenting, the away side continued to push forward following a free kick but Abdullahi Abubakar wasted the chance as his well-struck effort goes over.

In similar vein, goal scorer teed up his teammate, Markson Ojobo who could have done better and double the lead but his effort on the half volley went over.

At the restart of the second half, Rivers’ Emeka Ogbugh’s pin-point cross was met by Sochima Elum who could not direct his header on target who was later substituted and replaced by Salefu Ochowechi.

Nasarawa thought they had scored an equaliser through Olukokun but goal was called off for an offside, to the respite of Rivers.

With the realisation they could share the spoils, Rivers players came all out to increase their lead and were almost rewarded with Obomate twice in succession shooting inside the box but failed to find the back of the net.
