In a top of the table clash, Plateau United have dented the title ambitions of Lobi Stars following a 2-1 victory on Wednesday evening.
With the explosive match played at the New Jos Stadium in Jos, the home side for all intents and purposes came out firing on all fronts as they bid to remain in close proximity with the league leaders.
Within the first five minutes of the game, Lobi Star player, Saka Ayo was stretchered off to receive attention from the medics temporarily putting the team’s game plan into reverse mode.
Shortly after, the game was temporarily stopped for Lobi goalie, Kayode Olufemi who was down on the turf but was later booked by the referee for time wasting.
With both sides yet to take full control of the game, Plateau took the initiatives and began to dictate the tempo of the match but were not clinical enough in front of goal.
They however paid for their missed chances when Lobi forward, Sunday Akleche opened scoring by finishing off an assist from Anthony Okpotu from a close range.
However in the 40th minute, Plateau were awarded a penalty after Lobi defender Umar Zango fouled Saidu Salisu in the box which was converted by Reuben Bala.
Matters became worse for the away side when Ogunye Austin was given his marching orders after incurring his second bookable offense with 13 minutes left to play for.
With the numerical advantage, the 2017 NPFL champions attacked the away side to seek a winning goal which came via another penalty after Akila Jesse was fouled in the box in the 86th minute.
Again, Bala stepped up to score his brace and condemn the Ortom Boys to their 5th defeat of the league while dislodging Kano Pillars to claim the 2nd position on the league table.
Despite the defeat, Lobi Stars still remain top of the log with one point more than Plateau who are on 36 points.
