I Will Allow Sanchez, Ozil Leave On Free Than Selling Them – Wenger
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has made up his mind regarding the playing statuses of star players, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the London club.
Both players are in the final 18 months of their multi million dollar contracts and the club will have to smash its existing wage structure to tie them to extended terms – an action ‘Prof’ Wenger is not known to willingly do.
With Sanchez understood to be on £130,000 a week and Ozil the top earner on £140,000, it is reported that they want new deals that would at least double their money.
That poses a serious dilemma for Arsenal as the clock ticks down on their current deals, but Wenger on Thursday insisted he would not cash in on his two leading players, claiming they would at the very least stay with the club until the summer of 2018, when they would be available to leave on free transfers.
He said: ‘These players have 18 months on their contracts and, no matter what happens, they will stay for 18 months. Hopefully they’ll stay for longer than that.’
Wenger added: ‘I believe we live in the world where Sanchez and Ozil have a lot of money and can choose where they play.
‘We will do the maximum we can for every single player. These players have 18 months left. They will stay for 18 months and hopefully much longer.
‘I can’t give any assurances. They have 18 months and are completely committed.
‘Beyond that we will try and extend the contracts but I cannot make a subject of that. That’s a normal part of negotiating. The less you talk about it the better it is.’
Sanchez is reportedly set to be offered a £400,000-a-week deal in China, but Wenger said: ‘Why should you go to China when you’re playing in England today?’
